Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2a)

Out of bounds is defined by the line between the course-side points at ground level of white stakes and boundary fence posts at the following locations:

The Greenkeeper’s enclosure / pit behind the 4th green and to the left of the 5th tee including when playing the 1st hole.

To the left of the 6th hole

In the field to the left of the 14th hole

In the proximity of the Clubhouse, practice putting green and beyond and to the left of 18th green

In addition, a ball is Out of Bounds if it comes to rest on or over Chyngton Road or in the field behind the 13th green.

Abnormal Course Conditions (Rule 16.1)

Ground Under Repair: The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1

Examples of Ground Under Repair (but not limited to):

  • The flat bottom of the grass bunker in front of the 12th green. When taking relief from this G.U.R., with regard to the procedure for Dropping and Placing (Rule 14.3c), the ball shall be placed immediately.
  • Ground laid bare in the proximity of Greens and Tees by usage or weather conditions, and any Green keeping equipment service paths.
  • All watering system work scars and control box covers.
  • Drainage or Green keeping work scars around the course.
  • Beyond the ropes next to 17th green, dropping the ball at point of entry

Immovable ObstructionsThe player may take free relief under Rule 16.1

Examples of Immovable Obstructions (but not limited to):

  • Water sprinkler heads. In addition, if a ball comes to rest within two club lengths of any water sprinkler head that is itself a) within two club lengths of the green in play and b) on the intended line of play then the water sprinkler head may still be treated as an Immovable Obstruction and relief obtained under Rule 16.1.

All temporary (“Winter”) greens are wrong greens even when not in use and relief must be taken under Rule 13.1f.

If a player’s ball comes to rest on the banks to the sides and rear of the 12th green in a position that inhibits the safe playing of a stroke (for example, high risk of the player’s foot slipping), then the ball may be lifted, cleaned and placed within one club length of the top edge of the bank directly above where it had come to rest, without penalty. The same rule applies for balls coming to rest on the steep section of bank from the gully to the first level in front of the 12th green, for this area the relief must be taken back towards the tee within one club length of the gully using 2a above
