Scratch match news
A very busy weekend this one, sadly we didn't go any further in the scratch comp, we put up a great fight but being 3-1 down in the morning and home advantage for them just won it at 7-5. However, i must say we have done fantastic this year really starting to create a great environment and building a solid team with multiple options. For our first year at this, we have managed to beat Blatch twice, Cowdray away and come very close against Eastbourne Downs away, so very proud of all the lads that have competed in this, this year! Let keep this going and be even stronger for next year. I will arrange many more match's this year to keep up all sharp.
Ok so, first, congratulations to Matt Smith for picking up first place with a gross 69, that was some great golf in those conditions, well done Matt! Some more consistent golf coming from Ian Keith, Andy Gay, Rene and Matt Michell well done lads and it was great to see Jack Mason with a big climb up the leaderboard, well done Jack!!
Right lads!! Its that time again! The big one, our first Major or the year, Club Champs this Saturday and Sunday, double points up for grabs and don't forget the draw for the Scratch K/O will be done after the Medal on the 13th and 14th of June, only the top 16 will qualify for this so there are some massive points up for grabs over the next 2 weeks!!!
I think the Clubs Champs will be draw soon so i hope you have all put your names in for this, lets pray for just some half decent weather for once lol, either way it will be a great event and there will be a DJ and food for all after the round on Sunday!
Have a great week guys and i look forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning.
Paul

Scratch Match - Seaford Head Golf Club vs Seaford Golf Club - 11th of October 2025
We had our first scratch match of 2025 on the 11th of October against a very formidable team of Seaford golf club, who were in the Plate final last year. We decided to go for a 12 man team, the normal being an 8 man team but with 12 we could give a run out to a few extra players.
As a club we have been going through a process this year to rebuild our scratch team and set up the Order of Merit, giving all the lower handicap players something to compete in and challenge in over 20 events of the year along with 4 major championships, this has been very successful so far this year and we have seen many of our players improve in confidence and ability.
The result of this was on Saturday where we beat Seaford Golf Club 9.5 to 8.5! This was the first scratch match we have won in over 2 and a half years and to do it against a top 10 team in the county in a massive achievement and a huge boost for our club!
The format was 11 holes Foursome in the morning followed by 18 hole singles in the afternoon. Our team was below:
Paul Jones
Matthew Smith
Mark Roberston
Russell Cronin
Andrew Hutchings
Ian Keith
Stephen Kingcome
Lee Parris
Andrew Gay
Matthew Negus
Daniel McDonnell
Jack Mason
We went off in the below pairs in the morning foursomes:
Jack Mason & Matthew Negus
Matthew Smith & Daniel McDonnell
Lee Parris & Andrew Gay
Paul Jones & Steven Kingcome
Andrew Hutchings & Ian Keith
Mark Robertson & Russell Cronn
It was i tightly contested morning session with Seaford Golf Club leading the way at 3.5 to 2.5, Matt Smith & Dan McDonnell - Andy Hutch & Ian Keith picking up wins with Mark and Russell getting us a half point.
The afternoon singles matches order was below:
1 Paul Jones
2 Matthew Smith
3 Matthew Negus
4 Ian Keith
5 Jack Mason
6 Daniel McDonnell
7 Russell Cronin
8 Andy Hutch
9 Stephne Kingcome
10 Lee Parris
11 Andy Gay
12 Mark Robertson
We needed 7 points in the afternoon to win and after the first 10 games we were sitting at 7.5 Seaford head 8.5 Blatch with half points from Matt Smith - Ian Keith - Jack Mason and Lee Parris and wins from Russell Cronin - Andy Hutch - Stephen Kingcome. So it all came down to the last two matches, we had word that Mark Robertson had won convincingly 4&3 so we just needed 1 point....... Andy Gay was all square with Chris wells on the 18th tee and I'm delighted to say he pulled through and won us the match so we ended up winning 9.5 to 8.5
It was a terrific performance from the team, 5 of our singles matches came down to the last holes and each of our players dug deep and either got the win or a half point!
The team spirit that was created and joy of the win was incredible and I'm very proud of our team and what we achieved on Saturday! This just goes to show what we are trying to do as a club is working and i believe we are going to have a very good and competitive team going forward! Well done lads!!
